Hawaii community groups plan Capitol rally against ice (meth)

(Honolulu - Hawaii) -- Hawaii community groups from around the islands plan to rally at the Capitol next month to urge lawmakers to take a a tougher stance against crystal methamphetamine.

Organizers of the ``People's Summit'' say they want lawmakers to remember that hundreds of people who attended town hall meetings and held anti-drug signs are expecting results.

The summit is scheduled for January 23rd, two days after the 2004 Legislature convenes.

Representatives from all over Hawaii this year waged an unprecedented campaign against the illegal stimulant drug known as ``ice.''

Hawaii communities rallied against drugs in their neighborhoods, the documentary ``Ice: Hawaii's Crystal Meth Epidemic'' was broadcast in prime time by 11 television stations, and the lieutenant governor convened the first statewide drug summit in September.
