Family Lashes Out At Convicted DUI Driver in Hawaii

HONOLULU, Hawaii -- Anger was mixed with tears at the parole hearing Monday for a man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a drunk driving case. The victim's family wants Kam Williams to serve his full 20-year term.

Kam Williams was 19 years old nearly three years ago. He was drunk and speeding when his car crossed over the centerline in Waimanalo, Hawaii. It struck a vehicle driven by Lorrie Ann Wiley, who was killed in the crash.

"As we all know some decisions in life are final. Williams made a series of decisions that cost Lorrie her life," the victim's husband, David Wiley, said.

Williams had been arrested for drunk driving before the fatal crash. He was sentenced to 20 years for manslaughter.

Wiley's husband and now 7-year-old daughter, along with other family members, appeared at the parole board hearing, asking for the full term. They also vented their anger at Williams.

"I really do miss her a lot. You... why... why are you driving? Without a license? And drinking? Why you did that?" the victim's brother, Robert Macanas, said. "You need to be locked up, 20 years. I mean it."

"You stay in here until the end of your life. You stupid!" the victim's mother, Lorenza Macanas, said.

Prosecutors want Williams to serve at least 17 years. The defense did not ask for a minimum.

When Williams was given the chance to address the board, he spoke to Wiley's family instead.

"I wish that Lorrie Ann was here today. I would give my life for her, to be with you guys. "I'm just... I'm so... I'm sorry for what I've done," Williams said crying.

The parole board is expected to issue its decision in a few weeks.
